Version 8.10 of Ubuntu comes with version 2.4 of the office suite OpenOffice.org (OOo). However, upgrade to the latest release is a relatively simple task. Add the repositories Open "Software Sources" in the menu System> Administration tab in
"Third-Party Software" press the button "Add ..."
Add the following line of repositories:
- http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main

Close the window Update your system - Update Manager opens the System menu> Administration Recharge
updates the new version of OOo
- Accessing Start Center
- One of the features of this new version OOo is a welcome screen where you can choose what kind of document we create.
To access it, open the dialog box "Run Application" (Alt + F2) and run soffice
From the main menu
can also enable access to the Start Center in Main menu: Menu
System> Preferences> Main Menu The Menus list, select Office.
In the Items list, checking the box OpenOffice.org active.
- From Avant Window Navigator (AWN)
dock preferences, by right-clicking it and selecting preferences (or running awn -manager)
Go to the section Launchers (Launchers)
- Add a new launcher with the "Add" Fill out the information to the pitcher's name (Name), description (Description) and the name of Executable (Command). In the latter, writes ooffice
- or soffice
- (either work).
- Select an icon by clicking the left button. (In the dialog box select the option Stock / In Theme)
